ok got my gsxr 1100 draw thru turbo setup running with the lectron with power jet that the system came with bike idles good and runs good under boost
im going to street strip this bike and i just dont think the lectron is gonna cut it as im sooting plugs up and bike has bogging problems when rolling on the throttle in higher gears at low rpms cruising down the road... if u down shift it and get the rpms up it its great and every now and then the bike wants to die after i get in it and let off of it
i dont care to much for the s/s style carbs
i like the mikuni hsr 42 think that would work well for me
any thoughts.. and where can i buy one at for a a good price ??/

Check with Mr. Turbo. They've done a great job with this carb in Turbo applications.

The HSR 42mm Mikuni was a replacement upgrade on a lot of Harley's you can grab one on Ebay pretty cheap. run a 15 pilot and a 230 main jet. Get the high pressure needle and seat from Mr Turbo and if you do a lot of wide open throttle grab the bowl extender too. Mine ran like a normal streetbike. You could race/ride it anywhere. |

The Lectron is great for race only, go with the Mikuni for street / strip.

I wonder just how far this little HSR will take me. I am way past any stock jet sizes and have the fuel pressure so tight that it drips coming out of the burnout box. Using C16 was key! I am still able to keep things very cool with it and suspect moving past 30 PSI is not going to be a problem.
Used to be a lot of chat about this carb on this site. I wonder how far others have pushed this little carb. |

I changed from the 42 Mikuni to the 48 Mikuni carb and started drilling my on jets. I never had any problem running the bowl dry even without the bowl extender, just got to the point I couldnt make the jet any bigger. I made around 20lbs with a T-3, T-4 style turbo. But that still put my outlaw in the 7's at 185+.

I am confused. Were you running in the 7's with the 48 or the 42? If you were doing this with the 48, what sort of times/MPH were you running with the 42?

I went into the 7's with the 48. I never ran the 42 on my Outlaw. I changed over to the 48 when I was still running a shootout style chassis. The 48 was a big improvement over the 42. I cant remember how fast I went with the 42 but when I changed to the 48 it picked up everywhere. Here's a few links to my bike running now with the Lectron.

Good numbers for a draw/thru with no Nos on a small tire.

Hey Tim, I assume you gave up using the 42 after this to get into the mid 7's. What was the problem with the 42? Same problem as above (jetting)?
If jetting is the limit, seems like Jeff Marsh had posted about using a secondary jet with the 42.
There is a company here that makes a pickup for the HSR to allow you to use the Holley jets.

There was no problem with the 42, Kevin at FBG told me I would go faster with a Lectron...and I did..
BTW. I did also use a Dynojet (Thunderjet, whatever,..)with the Mikuni...

Thanks Tim. Makes sense. Seems like the stock needle jet was pretty small. Seems like the 230 was the upper end of what they offer. I am using drilled ones without a power jet thing.
