Can anyone tell me which is better to start dragracing with a 06 busa that I already have or go with the more horsepower 08 which i'm prepared to buy. And know this is not my first bike and i've been riding for at least 15 years. Will it be cheaper to get a 08 going fast compared to getting a 06 up to speed with the 08. Thanks for the help. |

If you get an 06 busa for 5K you can get it to run low 9's for another 3K (Swing arm, Airshifter, PCIII, NOS, Intake Cam, Exhaust). So you will only have 8K in the whole thing.
An 08 Busa would set you back around 9 or 10 and run in the low 9's with hardly anything.
The question is, do you want to work on the 06 Busa then race or just spend a little more on an 08 and go race?

the earlier busa has a better trans in it for racing...depends how fast you are going to go..08 has the longer stroke...little more hp out of the box...tough call...pros and cons both ways..

You could get the Gen 1 for a good price, then put all the good stuff in it.

Bill , PM sent...
Grady ,
If you already have the 06 Busa, you dont have to put alot into it to be ahead of the 08 Busa. A bolt on stage one turbo kit for your 06 will put you way ahead of a stock 08 and still be 100% streetable.

100% sreetable if you consider spinning the back tire everytime you give it a moderate amount of throttle streetable. At least that what mine does...

Jay can you send me a poster of that photo so I can put in my trailer and drool ????
Keep the 06 and with a few power adders you'll be right there and it'll be a lot cheaper.

If you haven't set the 06 up yet, I would sell it and find an 08 that is already set up. I have an 03 that runs much faster that my 09 but at the expense of reliablilty. You can run low 9's or high 8's depending on your weight with a bone stock motor Gen2. It is a great feeling to be at the track worry free because you are running a stock motor. No need to monitor A/F ratio like your life depends on it, pay extra for race gas, make map changes between passes, checking nitrous bottle pressure, etc.
So let us know if you are going to sell the 06 if you buy an 08 and if you have the 06 set up to race.

That is so true about having minimal worries and still run some nice #s, once you've decided that you need a faster bike , buy another one and put your money into it and then when the " Fast Bike " is broken, ( which will most likely be the case ) you can take your almost stock, reliable " Fast Bike That Runs " to the track and look back at the thousands of dollars you spent on the bike at home and wonder " Why did I do that ", thats happened to more then a few. |

AMEN to that! Cracking my motor open was definetly like making a deal with the Devil. It's great when you are out there going fast but sooner or later you will have to pay the piper!
I'm trying to make my current motor last as long as possible but now I have a bike that I try not to put that many runs on and I'm paranoid every time I hear the slightest bit of engine noise. Where is the fun in that????
Unfortuneately I need some extra hp because I weigh 270lbs. Running a stock motor GEN1 will only get me to about a 9.6 - 9.7 and a GEN2 I can see a 9.3 - 9.4 assuming everything is set up properly. But if I was around 160lbs I would definitely stick with a stock GEN2 and run 8.9 - 9.0 @ 152 - 153mph and have a ball! |

I know ( and I've did it myself ) more people that tear down a perfectly running 9.0- 9.4 bike and buy 3 - 5 thousand worth of parts and infearior labor and go slower or no performance gain, and never have a realiable bike again. Your far better off leaving your motor alone buying another bike or at least motor, pay a QUALIFIED person to build, Dyno and somewhat point you in the right direction. NEVER pay a person you know nothing about to do anything, if they don't have a Dyno ( my opinion ) then thats not a good choice and just because they have a Dyno dosen't mean they know what there doing . I could buy a Dyno and BLOW up EVERY bike that was ever strapped to it. Know WHO your dealing with.......... |

Just looking through some old threads and wanted to give an update. My 03 Busa blew up the first day I took it to the track in March of this year. I've been running my stock motor 09 ever since and doing well.
