Need to know if you can spray 20hp on a 08 Busa using 89 octane pump gas. Also need to know if there is a big difference between running 89 octane on motor vs. 93 octane on motor. Buddy of mine switched and mph dropped about 3mph.

The lower the octane the more power it makes untill you get detonation. You might get away with the 89 on spray but when your using the nitrous the difference between the 2 fuels will be verry small and it would always be better (safer) to go with the higher octane even though you may not actually need it at that time.

Thanks for the response! The problem we are running into is that we are setting up a stock 08 Busa to Bracket race and we have NOS installed just incase we need to make up time for a bad launch or missed shift.
We like the power that we get from 87 and 89 octane but are afraid to spray on it. Moving to 93 will be safer for spray but we think that it will kill power when running on motor and we will have to dial in at a slower number which we didn't want to do.
Has anyone compared their times or hp when moving from 87/89 to 93 octane using the same map?
We are also consider running VPMRX01 and having the bike mapped for that but there is an obvious cost factor when it comes to running on race fuel all season.

You're going to bracket race ?
Use the higher octane.
Adjust your dial.

If you don't have a way to retard the timing when the nitrous comes on, you will be a lot SAFER with the 93. If it detonates on nitrous, it can hurt it faster than you can get off the throttle. Ray.

I know it's only bracket racing but the rider likes dial as low as possible so he can leave second and be the one chasing instead of getting chased. Edited by RIDEHARD - 24 October 2009 at 7:28am |

i run my 08 busa in street fighter ( 9.50) with the nos off and et with the nos on.i have allways ran the bike on at least 93 .i did'nt have any problems but have since started mixing a little race fuel in with the pump gas just to be on the safe side.remember the 08's have more compresion than the first gen busa's.i havent noticed any difference in the et's no matter what fuel i use but thats just me.

Thanks for the response! I keep hearing that 89 will put out more power than 93 which is why we are trying to see if we can use it safely.

assuming you meant dry nos @ 20hp--- you should use 93octane. depending on your tune up. if you are running 13.5 air fuel ratio or richer depending when you hit the juice--it probably won't hurt anything.
