If you built one, I bet you know how to use a camera.  Post some pictures.  I for one would like to see your project.

Oh yea, welcome to the site.

As environmental concerns have all but eliminated petroleum-based fuel use, Drag Racing is now an all-electric sport, fueled by the now-numerous nuclear reactors.  The USA, in the early part of this century, pioneered a revolutionary form of nuclear energy that consumes its own waste, thereby unlocking the globe from oil dependency.  This innovation also put the US economy on its most explosive trajectory ever as it tooled up to supply the world with this cheap, safe energy source.

The most controversial new development by the EHRA (Electric Hot Rod Association) is their amazing "trolley wire system".   Taking a cue from the urban trolley buses and commuter trains of the 20th century, new tracks are being built with technology that allows the racing vehicles to gobble power from overhead wires using spring-loaded pickups instead of relying on cumbersome, heavy batteries.  Taking battery weight out of the vehicles has resulted in breathtaking leaps of performance!

Fifth-generation racer Ashley Hood-Hines-Schumaker-Force Jr.  has already broken the once-impossible 1 second bracket with this astounding new technology.  Her patented Anti G-force Capsule allows her to not only endure such acceleration with ease, its time-decompression mode enables her to also perform in-car interviews duing each pass.  No ancient HANS device here!

But like any new innovation, its time in the sun may be short.  The talk of MAGLEV vehicles, shot like electric projectiles, is on the horizon...

E.J. Potter did this in the 60's--been trying to come up with a picture. From what I remember from the old Hot Rod article, It was an Austin American ? (think Mini) and he had a big roll of wire he'd lay out + it would make contact like a slot car.

The Michigan Madman did this?   I'd love to learn more!

I was  raised in the Midwest, and he's a legend in these parts with his Widowmaker V8 Chev dragbikes.

My wife bought me a copy of his home video and his book for my birthday a few years back.  That video was the best present she ever gave me!!    I think you can still buy them on-line.

Try this one:

Kent Riches, owner of Air-Tech Streamlining, has built one that he set a land speed record this year. Don't quote me, but I think it was at 186mph. He has been having some issues with the batteries and he thinks it will go much faster.

Bonneville's a great place for electrics...the weight of batteries is not nearly such a disadvantage on the salt.

That and the time between runs along with all that sun light you could charge it back up with some panels.

Heh, you are always thinking.  I need an electronic engineer on my team so bad!

Perhaps once the economy turns for the better, I can have one...with unemployment soon to hit that diabolic double-digit mark, too many of my clientele are now too poor to play!

Thumbs Up     Does he have a website?  I did a quick search and found this:

Dressed in a black helmet decorated with dreadlocks made out of electric cord, Jeff Disinger pushed his purple flame-painted electric motorcycle to 142.24km/h, winning second place in the competition.

The 45-year-old tattoo artist from New York used to drag race gasoline-powered motorcycles, but hopes his switch to electric will help him stand out on the racing circuit and win sponsors.

"I've dragged raced a lot of normally aspirated engines and just thought this would be a different avenue. Nobody else had been doing it and I'm trying to be the first to make it look good," he said.
