Man I love those old school F/B pictures, that low long slinky look is what lit my fire to build a competive bike. Poppa JD

If memory serves, this is an early version of Sorcerer. that tire is too skinny to be the one on the last version I saw run...I think.
Maybe I am wrong, but I surely think that the final rear tire was at least 25% wider. Someone give me some details. Also, wow. Look at those skinny guys. How do they do it.? Tom Loughlin Jr. |

They did a wider tire upgrade, but Elmer said it wasn't enough.

Hooray! I knew that it looked anemic in the rubber dept. Elm was right..that "TAR" ( Elmerspeak for tire) was doing just about as much slipping as gripping even in the bigger size. There comes a time in racing development of a particular machine when one just cannot obtain wheel-tire size enough to stick with the original frame design and then...... when you have to take frame changes beyond "tweak"....one had better have a sympathetic accountant...and /or wife. Perhaps that contributed to the drydocking.

I saw it do it. I will never be the same. Can you imagine what that thing could do if the tire ever caught up with the mill? Some mathematician get busy and do the numbers to figure out how fast it would go with a five mile run up at a flying mile at Bonneville !!!

Tom,
The International Match Race was at Atco, NJ in mid 1978. I have some other pictures, but I'm having a hard time downloading them.

We have general knowledge of the performance of a lot of dragbikes that are posted here. And, several people here , including myself, have old performance newspapers with e.t.'s and mph numbers etc.

Tom,
In '76 for those races I was working as the starter. Jim Harris, Greg Goldt were tech and Roy ran the show under the AMDRA logo. When AMDRA was on the road, we still did the weekly bike drags at Atco and Jill ?????? kind-of ran the show under the Atco name. Then around '76, Harris moved to Kentucky, AMDRA moved to Calif. and Atco did there thing for bikes on there own or with sactions from Dragbike and/or IDBA. I then took over track manager until the last meet in October 1978 and then moved to NC in Jan. '79.

A tip of the hat to Greg, and a large man I remember as " Big Joe"....a friendly sort, but imposing. Was his last name Rydzewsiki?
pronounced roe jesky? If not, I need a tune up. Tom Loughlin Jr. |

Reading through a Dec 73 Big Bike it shows TC at both the NHRA Indy race and the AMDRA race on Labor Day weekend. How'd he do that? My only guess is he hauled butt from Atco to Indy on sunday since the NHRA raced on Monday, but I'm not sure you can make that trip that fast.
