... Seb, somebody asked why this bike is so controversial. It's so controversial not because of how fast it has been, but because of the principals involved, it's how fast it *has* to go. It has to go six twenties or better.

Indeed. Many statements have been made as to this bikes capabilities.
Personally, I'd like to see it reach this potential. Drag racing is no fun without innovation.

To Roland Tamaccio ; Why is the bike so controversial? I didn't know that it was,and what principals are involved? John Morgan and I Thought that 6.30's 220 + would be possible. We would be happier than two pigs in poop to run 6.449 218+.

Hi Seb,
I don't want this thread to turn out like the last one so please do not misunderstand my 5c. As you know I am very aware of your products capabilities (advertising them frequently and having friends who run your products) and the fantastic performances achievable by just buying your stuff off the shelf, bolting it on and going fast - quickly! That's why your products (and those of your competitors) are fantastic news for the `quick fix' generation of today's younger racers. They don't want all the hassle of designing, crafting, developing, fixing and above all learning why something works and something does not. They just want to buy, bolt on, and run a 7 sec pass on their Hayabusa as soon as possible. I understand that and have no criticism as electronics have helped to achieve that possibility. On the other hand, some of us enjoy the path to the seven second pass more than the seven second pass itself (or 6 or 5 of course!)....
Electrickery is what drives the world now (and as a trained semiconductor engineer I appreciate it as much as anybody).
However, some of us `older' people like to develop and try things that may be a bit agricultural compared to the solid state route.... That's why we like dragracing! We probably even prefer steam trains over TGV's....... And I am more fascinated by the Soviet effort in the space race than that of the USA despite the latter's undoubted superiority in electronics and control systems and ultimate success
Cheers,
Ian
p.s. I know that as the developer of things like the AMS you probably see my view better than your customers would....!

... Bill, it's kind of like Richard Maskin, after some success in the Seventies, he spent many years building Dart Machinery. Then he came back, in the Nineties, with Yates and Jeg's and showed the world that you don't have to be a current player to have your own program stored betwixt your ears. Good luck.

Guys its an awesome bike.
Just a discussion dont get your panties in a knot. I know you old schoolers like to make fire with a stick and see how long and enjoy the process. Im fine with that. I was have a conversation with Bill Sr. regarding boost control. I dont understand what principals make it so controversial ? |

... Seb, it's just that the guys in the project, for the most part, have been in the bike performance industry for so long, and that they are so well known, that they can't have a project that is either quiet or slow. Myself, I am kind of glad Bill is showing so many of the parts involved.

The only reason it is controversial is that some one started with a clean sheet of paper.
This is one of the first if not the first that is built with the "new-age Funnybike rules in mind, we were talking about this very thing in 2000-2001.

Just pulling your leg of course!

Hi Seb,
I know you are not spoiling for a `why do you guys do it like that'... argument. I often wonder why some people make their own stuff using their own expertise rather than buying in others innovations. We have many examples over here in Europe where we at Puma can make many things cheaper and easier than our friends who do it themselves. But I know why, it's the reason we do our own things too!
One of my heroes, LSR legend Sir Malcolm Campbell was asked once why he did what he did... He said because he could! Pretty much sums up why I love dragracing and the innovators like Bill, and you too!
Cheers,
Ian
